Humphrey, Leafa
Georgetta, 94, R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home,
Antigonish formerly of Loch Katrine and Ontario, died February 20,
2015 at the nursing home.
Born in Powassan, Ontario, she was a daughter
of the late George and Rilla (Briggs)
Shelley.
Leafa was a member of St. Patrick's Parish,
Lochaber. In her childhood she travelled with her parents who worked
on the railway and in lumber camps. She spend her adult life as a hard
working farm wife in Ontario. Upon retirement, she and Clare relocated
to Nova Scotia. She was a great storyteller, recalling memories of her
childhood. She was an artist working with oils and watercolors and
also sketching.
She is survived by daughters: Dorilla (Reg)
Miller, Feversham, Ont.; Brenda (Leo) Kell, Loch Katrine; son: Evan
(Lynda), Orangeville, Ont.; daughter in law, Shirley Humphrey, Red
Deer, Alta . She was a loving grandmother to fourteen grandchildren,
twenty one great grandchildren and one great, great
grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband Clare;
son, Larry; sons Brian and Rodney in infancy; and sister,
Lilly.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral
Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Monday, February
23rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held in
St. Patrick's Church, Lochaber on Tuesday at 11:00 am Burial in the
parish cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to the the
N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation, MS Society, or the Kidney
Foundation.
