Deon, Florence "Rita", 87, of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and formerly of Pomquet passed away peacefully on April 2, 2015, in the nursing home surrounded by her family.

Born in Heatherton, she was a daughter of the late John Albert and Mary Ann (Landry) Benoit.

Rita was a natural caregiver. In addition to bringing up her own family, she made the sacrifice of caring for several of her extended family members as well. Rita loved fiddle music and playing the spoons and could be found joining in at the Seniors' Hall in Pomquet.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Marilyn), Pomquet; Barbara (Stewart) Hargreaves, Antigonish; Marie, Pomquet; Joseph (Gloria), Pomquet; Louise (Roger) Foucault, Newfoundland; Joanne (Barry) Chynn, Halifax; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa (Charlie) Benoit, Ontario; Georgina (Gene) Sadore, Ontario; and Sadie Benoit, Pomquet.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Francis Peter Deon; brothers, Francis and Johnny; sisters, Betty Petrusauskas; Margaret Deyoung; and Anna Jean Burton; brothers-in-law, Eddie Petrusauskas, Buddy Burton, Ronald Benoit, and Joe Deyoung.

Visitation will be held Saturday only in the C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11:00am in Ste. Croix Church, Pomquet, with Reverend Bill Crispo presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery in the spring.
