Stubbert, Mary Belle, age 83, of Antigonish passed away April
6, 2015, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born on Hawthorne Road, Port Hood, she was a daughter of the
late Hector and Mary Catherine (MacIsaac) MacInnis.
Mary spent most of her working life as a lab technician at
the Halifax Infirmary. She lived with her husband, Rankin, in Halifax
before moving to PEI after her retirement. For 16 years,
Mary and Rankin lived on the Island with their son, Clary, his wife
Nancy and their granddaughter Abby, who was her pride and
joy. Mary was devoted to her husband Rankin, who lived with
MS throughout his life. She was at his bedside day and night
during his last few years when he was in hospital and when being cared
for at home. Rankin was Mary's soulmate.
Mary was a true Cape Bretoner. She loved the
people, the place, and embraced the culture. Anyone who came
to the house was given a cup of tea and a hot meal and enjoyed the
fiddle tunes playing in the background. She and Rankin loved
travelling home to Cape Breton. They rarely missed a dance
and were part of many a square set. Mary was most happy when
the tea was flowing, the tunes were lively, and she was surrounded by
family and friends. She was greatly admired and will be
deeply missed.
She is survived by son, Clary (Nancy Nunn) Stubbert,
Bayfield; granddaughter, Abby (Jonathon) Visser, Halifax; brother John
Donald MacInnis, Manitoba; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband, Rankin; sisters, Mary Sarah,
Marcella, Bessie, Christie, and Maggie; brother, Dan
Alex.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass
will be held Friday at 11:00am in St. Ninian Cathedral, with Reverend
Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial to follow at a later
date.
Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, donations to
the MS Society, Lung Association of Nova Scotia, or St. Martha's
Hospital Auxiliary appreciated.
