Girroir, Robert Landry, age 96, of Antigonish passed away on
May 10, 2015, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Born in Monastery, he was the son of the late Charles and
Helen (Landry) Girroir.
Bob was a councillor for the Town of Antigonish for over 20
years and Deputy Mayor for one term. He was a veteran of World War II
serving overseas in Holland and France and he was part of the Allied
Forces Invasion at Juno Beach. He was an active member of
Arras Branch #59 Royal Canadian Legion and was a
past-president. He had been a bookkeeper for Gillies Auto
Sales, Auld's Cove and for John D. MacDonald Farm Machinery and
Chisholm Construction, Antigonish. Bob enjoyed cards,
fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by sons, Bob (Anita), Fairmont, and Charles,
Antigonish; and grandchildren, Alison, Calgary; Shanda, Halifax; and
Evan, Antigonish.
Predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, and daughter,
Margaret.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held in St.
Ninian Cathedral on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 11:00 am with Reverend
Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish
cemetery.
