James "Jim" Alexander
Delaney, Cloverville, passed away peacefully,
surrounded by family on June 28th, 2015 at the age of
80.
Born June 3rd, 1935 he was a son of the late Theresa
(MacLellan) and Bernard Delaney of Pleasant Valley.
Jim was the husband of Isabel (Cameron) Delaney, whom he
married on June 30th, 1959. They shared 56 years of marriage, and
together created a legacy in their four beautiful daughters; Marie
(Ian) Thorn, Bonnie (Kevin) DeCoste, Annette (Raymond) McAllister, and
Angela Delaney. In his early years, Jim worked in a bronze factory in
Brooklyn, New York, but later returned to Nova Scotia where he started
a family with his wife Isabel. He worked as a mechanic for 40 years,
during which he owned and operated his own service station for 25
years in Havre Boucher. He then worked for 10 years as a car salesman
for Dale Motors.
Jim spent the last 30 years of his life being a devoted and
loving grandfather to his 6 grandchildren; Matthew, Chelsey, Beth,
Carlee, Scott and Alex, and 1 great-grandchild, Brayden. He was an
avid bowler and gardener, loved his animals, and enjoyed fishing and
four wheeling with his three grandsons at his side. He loved to dance
with his wife Isabel and particularly enjoyed listening and dancing to
Newfoundland music. Jim was a compassionate and generous man who
always knew how to put a smile on the faces of those around him. He
departed leaving infinite words of wisdom, having taught those around
him the importance of love, forgiveness, and family. He spent his
final days celebrating his life telling stories and helping his family
accept his journey, all while keeping his witty sense of humour and
showing overwhelming courage, dignity, and strength.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Theresa (MacLellan) and
Bernard Delaney; as well as six of his thirteen siblings; Mary,
Jackie, George, Doug, Howard, and sister Ronnie.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters, six
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, five brothers Hughie, Bernie,
Roddy, Dan, and Martin, and sisters Barbara and Stella, as well as
many loved nieces and nephews.
