She was married to the late Leonard McCarron for 49 years. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Roderick and Jean (MacDonald) Kennedy.

Mary loved her community of Lanark, where she was born and raised and chose to raise her family. She enjoyed the company of the neighbours in Lanark, going to dances, playing cards, politics, and of course her "stories".

Mary is survived by children, Robert (Joy), Tottenham, ON; Louise (Greg) MacDonald, Hamilton, ON; Barbara (Patrick) Quirk, Antigonish; Allan (Monica), Hamilton; Grant (Franca), Beeton, ON; and David (Shelley), Antigonish; brother John (Florence) Kennedy, Lanark; and sister Loretta Troyer, Beaconsfield, QC, as well as 20 grandchildren, Matthew, Megan; Lugene (Mark), Grant (Jillian), Jill; Bridget, Norah, Abigail, Clare, Rebecca, Mary Margaret; Cory, Kyle; Stephanie, Anna Maria, Paige; Michael, Madeleine, Courtenay, and Leah; and brother and sister-in-laws Eddie, Hughie (Margaret Ann), Blaise (Martine), Jerome (Judy), and Florence McCarron.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant sibling; and her stepmother Christina MacLean. Mary was also predeceased by brother and sister-in-laws, Peter Troyer, Mary McCormick, Sadie MacGillivray, Marie Walschot, Rita Cavanaugh, Phyllis MacGillivray, Evelyn Chisholm, John McCarron, and Leo McCarron.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at both the Aberdeen Hospital and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for their excellent care.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5t, in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral will be Thursday, August 6th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ninian Cathedral, Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
