Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Grace (Stewart) Chisholm.

 

A carpenter by trade, Donnie worked for Floyd Construction and Nova Construction for most of his career. Donnie also worked in Northern Ontario for CN Rail as a linesman in his early years. Donnie loved to keep busy and enjoyed many activities such as bowling, spending time working in his gardens, watching sports (especially hockey), and he also had an keen interest in history and world events. He was an avid reader, especially books on the railroad, WWII and historical biographies. Even in his retirement, Donnie still loved working with wood and continued to build many little projects. His workshop was an organized chaos where only he could make sense of it.

 

Donnie was an easy-going, patient, and quiet man who loved spending time with family and friends, sharing lots of stories and a laugh or two. He was a very proud grandad and looked forward to his weekly Skype dates with his two grandchildren. He loved all animals, especially the wildlife in his back fields and his longtime family pet, Bentley.

 

Donnie was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Heatherton where he was a member of the Buildings and Properties committee.

 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (Chisholm), daughters, Jolene, Heatherton; and Barbara, Ottawa; son, Mark (Rebecca), Melbourne, Australia; grandchildren, Alex and Andi; brother, Albert (Joan), Heatherton; sisters, Libby MacDonald, Heatherton, and Catherine Ranger, London,Ontario; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Chisholm and Rose Connolly; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Ronnie, Jim, and Stewart; sister, Carmel; Brothers-in-law, Chisholm MacDonald and Glen Ranger; and step-mother, Catherine Chisholm.

 

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 1, in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.  Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 2, at 11:00am in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, Reverend Andrew Gillies presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery.
