Gallant,
Daniel "Leonard", Ohio West, Antigonish
County. Surrounded by love and family on February 5, 2021, a
true gentleman Leonard Gallant, passed away peacefully in St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit,
Antigonish.
Son of the late Philip
and Regina (Gallant) Gallant of Ohio West.
Leonard will be so missed
by his wife and best friend of sixty-three years Janet
Fraser. Proud father of George (Joy), and Donald, Truro;
Sheila (Terry) Gottschall and Kenneth (Joe) of Antigonish; Allan
(Karen), Calgary; grandfather of Derek (Heather) Dunlap, New Glasgow,
Christopher (Sara) Dunlap, St. Andrews; Allison and Ryan Gallant,
Calgary; Corrine, Traci and Brittany Boyton; great grandchildren:
Amelia and Hudson Edward Dunlap, Malcolm and Graham Dunlap; sister,
Lillian Durant; nephews, Art (Terése), Calgary and Tom
(Rufus) Saskatoon.
Leonard’s
working years took him from sawmills, to St. FX., a painter and an
insulating tradesman. He finished up working for the Sisters
of St. Martha at Bethany for twenty years. Once he retired,
he got involved in Bauer Theatre, St. Joseph’s Choir, the
Christopher Leadership Course, CB and Amateur Radio, The Harbour
Players Dinner Theatre, the Voices of Praise Singers (who produced The
Journey CD) and he learned sign language. At age 83 he took
up bowling and in his last year started drumming classes.
Always, the listener the time spent with Toastmasters was not
wasted.
He was predeceased by
brother, Robert; great granddaughter, Amber Nicole, brother in law,
Francis Durant and nephew, John Durant.
There will be no
visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private
Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, St.
Joseph’s on Wednesday, February 10th
at 2:00 pm with Father Lazarus presiding. Burial at a later
date.
Due to Covid 19
restrictions funeral has to be by invitation only because of social
distancing protocols. Masks are mandatory. The
funeral will be recorded with link available on C.L. Curry website
obituary later in the day.
In lieu of flowers a
donation may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital
Foundation in Leonard’s memory.
The family wish to thank Dr. W. Booth for
his years of care, also Dr. Jane Howard, Dr. Gibson and Dr. R.
MacNeil, St. Martha’s E.A. staff,
3rd floor GARU Unit, and
the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for the kindness and
love that surrounded Leonard and his family.

very special thank you to our family, friends and neighbors for all
your kindness care and support over the years. You are the wind
beneath my wings I am so proud of the Ohio.
