Proctor, Donna Margaret,
Antigonish. It is with great sadness that we
announce the passing of our dear mother Donna; at Milford Haven
Nursing Home on January 06, 2022. She was born in Antigonish on August
2, 1932 to William Joseph Purcell and Anna Theresa (Mac Donald)
Purcell.
Donna grew up in Pleasant Valley with her
three siblings and loved to reminisce about her childhood. She fondly
remembered helping out on the farm whether it was milking the cows or
tending to the beautiful vegetable gardens. In 1950 Donna completed
High School in Mabou and then went on to Mount Saint Bernard College
where she graduated with secretarial. Soon after graduation she met
the love of her life, John Vernon Proctor; a handsome young teacher
who had graduated from St.F.X. They were married for 60 years until
his passing. Together they raised five children and when Mom
wasn’t working outside the home she was busy preparing
meals, lunches, laundry, sewing, knitting and carting kids to sporting
events, Highland Dance competitions, the golf course and the Keppoch.
She tried to run a tight ship which became a little more challenging
when we were all teenagers. There was always one of us who
didn’t quite know our curfew which made for some interesting
nights and several prayers no doubt. Even though Mom and Dad were very
busy they found time for themselves and loved to dance and
travel.
Mom spent many hours volunteering with various organizations
including St. Ninian’s Parish and the RK Mac Donald Nursing
Home. She was a devout Catholic and believed in the power of prayer.
She held on tightly to her rosary beads never letting them out of
sight. After we were all married and Mom had retired from Lands and
Forests she turned her attention to her grandchildren. She was very
proud of all of them but held a special spot in her heart for Joshua
and Jarret as they spent a lot of time with her.
Donna was predeceased by her devoted husband John, daughter
Therese, her parents and her brother Edmund. She is survived by her
children, Kenneth (Janice) Antigonish; Trisha (Reg) Landry,
Tatamagouche; Paul (Darlyne) Cape George; AnnMarie (Paul) Cameron,
Antigonish. Nana will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Eric,
Laura and David Proctor; John, Steven and Nicole Landry; Jordyn
Proctor; Allison and Scott Cameron; Joshua and Jarret Mac Donald.
Great granddaughters, Rylan, Lila and Remi Doiron. Donna will be
missed by her sisters and beloved friends, Marie MacLellan and Agnes
MacDougall, along with several nieces and nephews.
Sincere thanks to all the staff at Milford Haven for all
their kind and compassionate care of our mother.
