Tate, Joseph Allan, Antigonish – March 24, 1937
– June 12, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of
Joseph Allan Tate, age 85, at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home,
Antigonish.
Born in Grosvenor, Guysborough Co., Allan was the son of the
late William John and Mary Ellen (Gerrior).
Allan will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Velma
(Carr), son Ken (Natalie), Port Hastings and daughters, Cheryl
(Dennis), Fort McMurray and Paula (Ron), San Francisco; grandchildren:
Andrew, Jenna and Cameron, whom he loved deeply as well as many nieces
and nephews, and Meagan Kenny.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate
family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers:
Edward (Josephine), Colin (Janet) and sisters, Theresa (William John)
and Irene (Joe).
Allan worked for Digdon Trucking for many years during the
construction of the Canso Causeway, as a painter at St. Francis Xavier
University, and as a private contractor until his
retirement. For many years he sold Christmas trees, stemming
from his love of Christmas. Boy, did he love Christmas! He
gave everything he had to his family at Christmas time. He
would call the radio station every year on December
1st asking them to play Christmas
music. Allan loved music, especially Newfie Fever on a
Saturday night at the local hall with friends and neighbors. He was a
man of simple values and had a big heart. He loved a good
sweet after his dinner. He had a passion for horses and even
owned a few as a child on the family farm. He loved watching
the horse pull at the fall fair every year.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral Mass will be in St. Ninian Cathedral on Friday at 11:00 am
with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial to follow in
St. Peter’s Cemetery, Tracadie.
