Marie
Josephine (Grant) MacDonald, 79, of Monastery, NS passed away
peacefully on November 11, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital
in Sydney, NS.
Born in
Antigonish on March 12, 1943, to the late Michael and Florence
(MacDonald) Grant of Monastery, NS, Marie is survived by her beloved
daughter Leanne (Steve MacIntosh) MacDonald, Monastery, her sisters
Katherine (Charles) Punch, Monastery, and Lorna (Dermot) Chisholm,
Guysborough, brother David (Marianne) MacEachern, and cousin Donnie
(Donna) McNutt as well as many cherished sister-in laws, brother
in-laws, nieces and nephews. Marie is predeceased by her husband Angus
MacDonald, sister Evangeline (Carmen) Hatfield, and brothers Edward
and William ‘Billie’ Grant, along with special
loved ones Ann Wallace, Ronnie Bowman, and Dan J MacDonald.
She followed
her passion to become a Registered Nurse and graduated in 1966 from
the Glace Bay Regional Hospital School of Nursing in NS. She was a
very dedicated nurse and was employed for over 30 years at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, caring for patients in various
surgical departments.
Marie was a
very sweet and loving person who would always lend a hand to anyone in
need. Her favourite past times were going to dances & kitchen
parties with family & friends, bingo, crafts, puzzles, baking
and spending time outdoors gardening. She also enjoyed decorating for
Christmas, adding to her snowman collection each year, and would so
love having everyone in for family gatherings. Lots of fun times were
also had going on adventures and road trips with her daughter
Leanne.
She was a
loyal parishioner of St. Peter’s Parish, Tracadie, and a
member of the C.W.L.
Visitation
will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish on Tuesday, November 15 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral mass
will be held in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie on Wednesday,
November 16 at 10:30am with Father John Barry presiding. Burial in the
parish cemetery.
Donations may
be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital Foundation or St. Peter’s
Parish.
