It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jacques Benoit of Pomquet, Antigonish County, on November 18th, 2022, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born and raised in Pomquet, he was well known throughout the community with a long-standing reputation for being a gentle giant, always with a smile and a friendly hello.

For over 40 years, Jacques was foreman for Colin R. MacDonald Construction/Alva Construction, working throughout the province. He took pride in his work and continued to build bridges up until shortly before his passing, many of which can be seen around Nova Scotia today.

Jacques was always available to lend a helping hand - from repairing roofs and building decks to laying foundations, he was never too busy.

When not working or helping others with home projects, he could be found tending to his lawn and garden, camping throughout the Maritimes, playing cards, or basking in his sunchair with the country music playing and working on his tan.

Jacques is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon; children; Kim, Tracy (Jason), Pierre (Aimee); brothers, Anthony (Carmel), Mario (Sherrie), Moses (Rita), James (Aggie), Sandy (Jean); sisters, Rachel (Joey), Arteen, Evelyn (Michael), Delores (Johnny); grandchildren, Alissa (David), Anthony, Ryan, and Riley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Rachel Benoit.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 1:00pm in Ste. Croix Church, Pomquet, with Reverend Dennis Lamey presiding.  Cremation to follow, and burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.

In memoriam, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
