Benoit, Donna Marie, age 70, of Antigonish passed away on
January 11, 2023, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late John Henry
and Eileen Isabel (Davidson) Benoit.
Donna was a very special person and a true gem. She
lived her life with dignity and grace. A woman of tremendous
faith and strong convictions, she was kind, giving, courageous, and
strong. Everyone who met Donna loved her immediately. She
had a wonderful sense of humour and loved chatting and visiting. She
enjoyed playing cards, knitting, cross-stitching, and baking,
especially her famous apple cake. Donna enjoyed her career as a child
care provider for many children and families in the
neighbourhood. She also spent several years working for St.
Ninian Parish in the parish office.
She loved her independence and was grateful for her
neighbours on South River Road and then later on St. Ninian Street.
She looked forward to her regular visits to St.
Ninian’s for Mass and a follow-up with her coffee
club. Donna was an amazing sister and a fabulous
aunt. She was the glue of the family.
She is survived by her siblings, Charles (Sharon), Valley;
Bill (Marguerite), Antigonish; Ken (Rosalind), Fall River; Lois
(Louis) Hudson, Clydesdale; Darlene (Steven) Richard, Dartmouth; Kathy
(Peter) MacEachern, McArras Brook; Mary Theresa (Rick) Grant, Hammonds
Plains; Andre (Elaine), Sweets Corner; and Sharon (Dave) Pregitzer,
Cochrane, AB; and many very special nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by a brother in infancy and her very good friend,
Bonnie Fraser.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11:00am in St. Ninian Cathedral,
Antigonish, with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial
in the parish cemetery in the spring.
In Memoriam, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the
Antigonish Food Bank and an act of kindness in Donna’s
memory would be appreciated.
A very special thank you to Dr. Patsy Allen, Dr. Che, Dr.
Rice, and Dr. E. Chiasson, and the amazing nurses and staff of the
Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s
Hospital.
