We, the family, are saddened to inform of the passing of Cyril A. Levangie on March 8, 2023, after a brief stay at St Martha’s Hospital following a fall at home. He was a much-loved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born Dec 16, 1926, in Frankville, NS to the late Sophie (DeCoste) and William Levangie.

Survived by his wife of 73 years, Dolores (Benoit) formerly of Pomquet, daughters, Sandra (Mike) Hanlon, Frankville; Colette (Jack) Ross, Calgary; Gwen (Hughie) O’Neill, Frankville; sons, Rene (Martina), Sherwood Park, Jim (Deb), Afton; daughter-in-law, Martina, Frankville; 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; brother, Paul, Halifax; brother-in-law, Charlie Benoit, Sudbury, Ont., sisters-in-law, Bea Young, Somerville, Mass; Pauline Pascal, Burlington, Ont.; and Mary Levangie, Sydney, NS.

Predeceased by his eldest son, Charlie, in 2014, and infant son, Francis Joseph in 1965; sisters, Priscilla (Steve DeCoste), Jeanette (Phonse Pertus), Anita (Angus MacDougall), Idella (John Gillis); and brothers, Russell and Norbert.

In his early years, dad was a teacher, but most of his career was as the owner/operator of Jas Levangie & Son Ltd. and Postmaster for Canada Post enjoying each workday that allowed him to be a provider for his family while cultivating lifelong relationships. His priorities in life were his faith, family, community, and friends. He enjoyed meeting new people, having visitors to the house, playing cards, understanding, and explaining genealogy, gardening, yard work, music, singing, and travel.

Dad lived a life of many blessings, which he recognized, and for which he was always grateful, not least of all his chosen partner in life and his family. He took great pride and interest in each member following their life journey and generously supporting them each step of the way. He loved his community and was always generous of spirit, time, and support, however it was needed.

In his later years, with declining mobility, he would keep an eye from his recliner on those arriving to pick up their mail, waiting for the hand waves from many who could see him through the window, as well as drop in visits from neighbours and friends. He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Martha’s Emergency Dept, PCU and Palliative Care Unit, and Dr. Gillis & Dr. Howard, who treated Dad with such compassionate care over the past two weeks, as well as, Dr. William Booth, his family doctor for many years. We also wish to thank Shirley Levangie, a special family friend who supported the family and dad’s wellness throughout the past years.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 12 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at St Paul’s Centre, Havre Boucher.  Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 13 at 11am in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher, with Reverend Allan MacPhie presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation, St Paul’s Parish, or a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
