Pettipas, Dora "Doris" Agnes, age 74, Lundy, Guysborough County
It is with
great sadness that I must announce the sudden passing of my mother
Dora (Doris) Agnes Pettipas of Lundy on May 21, 2023.
Mom was born in Guysborough on May 30, 1948, to the
late John Angus and Garnet Marie (Avery) Pettipas and raised in
Lundy.
She went to school in Larry’s River until losing her father at the young age of 14. At that time, she left school to help her mother raise her siblings. Mom moved to Antigonish to work, where she met Les Dort. They married in January of 1969 and welcomed their daughter Velma in May of 1972. She worked for many years doing house keeping at St. Martha’s Hospital. She also worked for Silver’s Cleaning and did house cleaning and painting for several homes over the years. Being a single mother, she was always a hard worker and a strong independent woman, who wanted to give her daughter the best life possible. Her strength really showed when she fought her way through two battles with cancer, only to be taken in a tragic car accident. Mom was never a wealthy lady, but she never hesitated to help anyone in need, always willing to lend a helping hand.
She will be missed tremendously by her loving daughter Velma (Paul) Schofield, grandson Jeffrey, granddaughter Ashley (Ben) Mandel, their children Hudson and Hadley, her brother and best friend Wilson, brother John and many family members and friends. Predeceased by a daughter in infancy, a sister in infancy and her brother Leo.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Peter’s Church, Larry’s River on Saturday. May 27th at 11:00 am with Father Callistus presiding followed by reception in the Community Hall. Private burial.
