HANWAY, James Albert "Jamie", 51 of Dartmouth, NS. Jamie passed away at Dartmouth General Hospital on July 12, 2023.

A survivor of childhool leukemia, Jamie faced many health challenges in his life, most recently a diagnosis of vascular dementia in 2021.  He had been in the care of Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home the past 18 months.  A big thank you to Steve Forbes, who stepped up to help the family when Jamie got sick, as well as caregivers and staff at both Oakwood Terrace and Dartmouth General.  Affectionately known as "Oogie" by his UNB friends, he will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his son Joel & former spouse Michelle, Dartmouth; brother, Adam, Halifax; sister Beth (Ben) and nephew Jakob of Meaford, ON.

He was predeceased by his parents, Major A Thomas Hanway & Lois (Adams) Hanway, his maternal grandparents, Alex & Ella Adams and his paternal grandmother, Helen Hanway.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, with Reverend Peter Smith presiding.  Burial in St. David’s Cemetery, Cape George.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jamie’s name to the IWK Health Centre Foundation or the charity of your choice.
