MacDonald,
Colin William, age 70 of Heatherton passed away on August 26, 2023 in
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, after a brief
illness, with his family at his side.
Born in
Antigonish, he was the son of the late William Alexander and Margaret
Anne (MacNeil) MacDonald, formerly of James
River.
Colin grew up
in James River where he enjoyed welcoming visitors and picking apples
in the fall, and he was fascinated with the trains that passed by his
home on a daily basis. For the past twenty-two years, he was a
resident of the Heatherton Group Home, where he participated in the
Heatherton Activity Centre. He enjoyed music, concerts, and long
Sunday drives.
He is
survived by his sister, Marilyn; brother Paul (Bonnie); and nephews,
Aaron and Brendan (Beverley), all of Antigonish; uncle, Collie MacNeil
of Etobicoke; many cousins, and the staff and brothers and sisters at
the Heatherton Group Home. Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by his brother William (Bill) in
1984.
The family
expresses their sincere gratitude to all of the wonderful staff and
residents at the Heatherton Group Home who provided exceptional care
and companionship during Colin’s stay there. The
family also is thankful to his family doctor John Chiasson and the
staff at the VON as well as all of the staff at the Palliative Care
Unit of St. Martha’s Hospital for the excellent care and
compassion that they all provided.
Cremation has
taken place. Visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 pm. Funeral will be held at C.L. Curry Funeral Home on
Thursday at 10:30am with Fr. Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in St.
Joseph’s Cemetery at a later
date.
