MacDonald,
Elizabeth Marie, age 76, of Antigonish, passed away at home on
September 16th, 2023.
Born in
Lochaber, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Johanna (Flynn)
MacDonald.
Liz was the
youngest of eight children in Goshen, Antigonish County. She spoke
fondly of her childhood and the many animals she loved on the family
farm over the years. Liz moved to Antigonish and worked in the kitchen
at the R.K MacDonald Nursing Home, where she served for 35
years.
During her
early years at the R.K., she met Bernie. They spent their years
together enjoying time outside, especially at Big Island Beach or
Beaver Mountain Park, with their dog Cal and spoiling their
grandchildren. Liz always took photos of those around her but
didn’t enjoy being in front of the camera. When not outside
or spending time with ‘her girls’ and Bernie, Liz
could be found with a cup of tea in hand, watching Hallmark Christmas
movies, crafting, watching Heartland, or making her evening phone
calls to the family, her special nieces, or to her dear friend
Shelly.
She is
survived by her son, Ian (Yvonne) MacDonald, Antigonish;
grandchildren, Molly (Trevor) Stewart, Fredericton; Katie (Tyler)
VanOirschot, Ashdale; brothers, John MacDonald, Antigonish; and Gordon
MacDonald, Middleton; sister-in-law, Shirley MacDonald, Antigonish;
and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased
by husband Bernie; sister, Peggy Steeves; brothers: Lawrence, Harry,
Leo, and Everett MacDonald; brother-in-law, Donald Steeves and
sisters-in-law Patsy, Shirley, Roberta, Helen and Sandra
MacDonald.
The family
would like to extend special thanks to the Continuing Care staff, whom
Liz always enjoyed visiting with, Constable Wallace, C.L Curry Funeral
Home staff for their compassionate support, Dr. Hickey, and Meals on
Wheels.
Cremation has
taken place. Visitation will be held at C.L Curry Funeral
Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9pm. Funeral mass will be held Friday in St. Joseph’s
Church, St. Josephs, at 11:00am. Burial in the parish
cemetery.
Family
flowers only, please. Donations may be made to St. Joseph's Hillside
Cemetery Association.
