Perro, Mary Lee,
Antigonish
Mary Lee was
born on May 6th, 1955, in
Antigonish.
She spent most
of her working life in the nursing field, graduating as an LPN from
Lunenburg Vocational School in Bridgewater. She worked in
Health Care her entire career, dedicating her life to the comfort of
others. She began at Queens’s General Hospital in
Liverpool in 1976. She returned to Antigonish in 1985 and
spent the last twenty years of her working career at Bethany in
Antigonish where her Aunt Sister Theresa Perro took her under her wing
and helped her find the joy in nursing again. Even in
retirement, Mary Lee found happiness in volunteering with the Sisters
of St. Martha where she was known as the singing
nurse.
Mary Lee
enjoyed singing, reading, spending time with family, quietly taking in
all the conversations of a loud boisterous family, always with a smile
on her face, and an occasional comment. She loved her family
fiercely and family was very important to her. Antigonish
was her home, and the place where she formed many strong bonds, not
least of which, were the residents of St. Ninian’s Co-op
where she lived the last ten years and where everyone looks after each
other like a second family.
Mary Lee is
survived by her son, Christopher Cruikshank; grandson, Cameron
Shenkle; brothers and sisters: Barb (Joe) Poole; Robert (Sandra);
Bruce (Maria); Linda Juurlink; Almira (Bill) Garvie; Jim (Terri); Jim
Fraser and Joan Fraser.
She was
predeceased by her father Archie Perro; mother, Janet Perro-Fraser;
stepfather, Bernie Fraser; brother, Richard and brother in law, John
Juurlink.
