Horne (Casey), Ruby Frances Geraldine, age 91 of Antigonish died peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Martha’s Place in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.

She was born on November 17, 1931, in Little Dover, Guysborough County, and was the beloved youngest daughter of the late John and Lena (Gurney) Casey.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Horne (Mike Doyle); Lynn MacDonald (Lawrence); and Pam Horne (Mike Moseychuck); son, Keith Horne (Joan Wood); her grandchildren, Natasha, Melissa, Amy, Justin, Brianna, Ryan, Sancha, and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Alexa, Anya, Maddox, Madelyn, and baby Ruby.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ambrose.

She was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by siblings, Nora, Lucy, Eileen, Ruth, Bernice, Pauline, Carl, Harry, Del, and Clyde.

Ruby was a dedicated member of St. Ninian Parish and the CWL.  She was a St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care volunteer and a member of the Antigonish Town and County Palliative Care Society.  She was also a member of the Bethany Choir and the Bonnie Blends.

Ruby loved camping in Country Harbour with Ambrose and their dog, Casey.  For family occasions, she would always bake Nanny’s white cake.

Ruby thoroughly enjoyed her life.  She was well known for her infectious smile; her stories, songs, and poems; her rich sense of humour and zest for life; and her love of God and her family.  She continued to share her gifts with others on a daily basis.

Ruby’s bond with her grandchildren was beyond words.  Nanny was their teacher, friend, confidant, storyteller, and their connection to prayer.  Nanny’s powerful blessings and prayers provided strength through challenging and joyous times.

Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to ALL the outstanding staff at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.  Thank you for the love, respect, and exceptional care you so graciously provided, especially during her final days.  To Dr. Elizabeth Cooper, thank you for your care, guidance, and support during this difficult journey.  We also want to thank Sr. Catherine MacGillivray and Ty Wallace for their generous gifts of love, music, and presence.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral Mass will be held Friday in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, at 11:00am, with Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery.

In Memoriam, donations to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation appreciated.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
