Vacheresse, Robert Morris "Bobby", age 81, of James River, Antigonish County, passed away on November 22, 2023, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Morris and Mary (Mattie) Vacheresse.

The meat business has been in the Vacheresse family for over 100 years, and Bobby started work with his father at a young age.  Originally operating out of James River, they moved to the store on Sydney Street in Antigonish for some time.  They returned to James River briefly before Bobby and Jean built the store on St. Andrews Street in Antigonish, where it remains to this day.  The early days involved a lot of travel throughout Guysborough County selling meat to customers all over, and a lot of fine people were met along the way.

Bobby was a family man through and through.  He cherished his kids, and to them he passed on his love of horses.  He enjoyed traveling with them to horse shows when they were young, and Bobby became very well-respected in these circles.  This love of horses continued with his grandchildren.

Bobby and Jean were tremendous partners in both business and in life, and they had fond memories of their special trip to France to visit the Vacheresse family origins.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence Jean; children, Florence (George) Girrior, Addington Forks; Patricia (Kevin) Wilson), Lower South River; and Bradley (Tracylynn); James River; grandchildren, Chelsea, Jennifer, Matthew, Megan, Jillian, and Carter; great-grandchildren, Anders, Julianna, Lexis, Riley, and Myhah; sister, Evelyn Hargreaves; and half-brother, Louis Vacheresse.

Predeceased by his son, Robbie; and half-brothers, Wilfred, Ralph, Eugene, and Harold.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cudmore and the Palliative Care nurses for the exceptional care they gave Bobby.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 7 to 9pm and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph, at 11:00am.  Burial in Glen Bard Cemetery at a later date.

Family flowers only please. In Memoriam, donations to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit), a local toy drive, or a charity of your choice appreciated.
