Sunrise February 15, 1940. Sunset December 7, 2023. Charlie fought the good fight against pancreatic cancer for over 4 ½ years.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents Danny and Lucy Gallant; two brothers, Jo-Jo and Alex; and an infant sister, Wilfredine.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Yvonne (Arsenault); sons, Stephen (Charlotte), Frank (Heather), and Mike (Tamara); daughter, Gisele (Marc); grandchildren, Dylan (Riley), Kirsten (Cam), Morgan (Jaclyn), Connor (Maggie), Carly, Finegan, Maura, Sophie, and Emma (Franco); and great grandson, Joey. Charlie is also survived by his brothers, Wilfred and Gerard; sisters, Viola (Leo) and Marie; sisters-in-law, Evangeline, Theresa, Diane (Benny), and Joan; brother-in-law, Phil (Mary Margaret); and many nieces & nephews.
Charlie enjoyed every single thing he ever did. For companionship, he won over the love of his life, Yvonne, whom he cherished deeply. For work, his primary love was teaching mathematics at St.F.X. for forty years, but he also dabbled in meat cutting, carpentry, and painting. For fun, Charlie enjoyed a good sing song, especially those that included country music and sad songs. He excelled in storytelling. Some of his fillers may even have been true. He loved reading to his grandchildren and closely following their progress. For hobbies, his greatest love was gardening. He also enjoyed fishing, long walks, fly tying, spearing eels, and racquetball.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Brittany Barron, Dr. Ron MacCormack, Dr. Phillip Cooper, Dr. Brian Steeves, and the VON & Palliative Care teams for the comforting care they provided Charlie. We are forever indebted to Dr. Mark Walsh for saving Charlie’s life in 2019, allowing us to have so many more wonderful memories.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Tuesday, December 12th at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 13th at 11am in the St.F.X. University Chapel in Antigonish with Reverend Ray Huntley and Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding.
