Landry, Jane,
age 69 of Dartmouth, NS, passed away on February 19, 2024, in the
Halifax Infirmary.
Born in
Edmonton, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Carmel (DeCoste)
Landry.
Jane lived at
the Caring Nest Small Options Home for 27 years where she received
exceptional care from the past and present owners and all the
staff. They took Jane on many trips and outings.
Jane loved to sing to Velvet and Mary Sue, her longtime roommates,
every morning. She also knitted slippers and dish cloths,
plus she made a painting for every staff member. She was a
member of the New Beginnings Program until her retirement.
She loved going on visits to see family members and enjoyed having
visitors at her place.
Her hobbies
included drawing, painting, reading, knitting, and
crocheting. She knew all the family’s birthdates
by heart and would never miss sending them homemade birthday and
Christmas cards. She was in and out of the hospital quite
frequently over the last three years and every time she made the
doctor and nurses homemade cards, knitted dish cloths, or
slippers. She was a very devoted
Catholic.
Surviving are
her sisters, Debra, Calgary; Rose Marie, St. Peter’s, and
Michelle, Truro; and brother, Roderick, Antigonish. She was
predeceased by her brother, Joseph.
Thanks to the
doctors and nurses that looked after Jane her whole life and while she
recently stayed at the Halifax Infirmary and the Abbey Jane
Lane. Thank you to Dr. Krueger-Naug, the Palliative Medicine
Doctor at the VG, and her team; to Dr. Laura Downing, Jane’s
family doctor; and to whoever might have been forgotten. We
would especially like to thank Jennifer Purcell and all the staff at
the Caring Nest Small Options Home for their compassionate care and
patience with Jane. They went above and beyond their call of
duty.
Visitation
will be held Thursday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish, from 11:00am until the time of the funeral.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday in St. Ninian Cathedral at 1:00pm
with Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in St.
Peter’s Cemetery, Tracadie, in the
spring.
