It is with deep sadness we the family of Stephen Patrick Gaudon announce that he passed away at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the age of 77.

Steve was a proud Newfoundlander, born on the west coast in the town of Stephenville. Throughout the years Steve enjoyed soccer, basketball, pool, darts, squash, racquetball and riding a bike.

In the fall of 1987, he joined the staff of St. Ninian’s Cathedral Parish as the sexton where he continued for almost twenty-two years until he had to take an early retirement due to Parkinson’s disease.

Steve is survived by his wife, of thirty-eight years, Marilyn (Miles); daughter Nikki and son, Stephen (Natalie); two grandchildren, James and Ella.; sisters: Hannah; Genevieve (Ron); Faidilis; Vivian; Christine (Gerard); Irene and Debbie (Denny); brothers: Ronnie (Berdine) and Clifton (Betty).

He was predeceased by his brothers Allan and Greg.

Cremation has taken place.  Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024  at 2:00 pm in St. Ninian’s Cathedral with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.

Thank you to Dr. Patsy Allan and Dr. Sandy MacDougall who tried over the years to improve his quality of life.

Thanks to Continuing Care including Antigonish Area Homemakers and Ed Watson whose presence allowed Steve to remain at home until his final day.

Thanks to the paramedics and staff of St. Martha’s Hospital who provided compassionate care in his last hours.

Thanks to Fr.Donald MacGillvary and to Sister Catherine MacGillvary for their kind words and actions.

Donations in memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of N.S.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com.
