It is with
broken hearts that we announce the passing of Jeffery Daniel Paul
Murray, 42, on March 16, 2024, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in
Halifax surrounded by his loving family and lifelong friends. He was a
warrior who filled our lives with steadfast and unconditional love
while fearlessly living each day with determination and
optimism.
Making
friendships was natural for Jeffery, and everyone he encountered was
graced with his loving, mischievous smile and a quick thumbs up. He
taught us how to embrace life’s smallest offerings, the
importance of inclusivity, and living a barrier free
life.
Jeffery
achieved many goals in life that were once thought impossible and
taught us to speak up for what we believe to be fair and just. He was
an early advocate for disability awareness and educated local students
on the importance of inclusion.
He was an
original member of the Antigonish Therapeutic Riding Association. Jeff
thoroughly enjoyed his volunteer hours spent at the R.K. MacDonald
Nursing Home and with Antigonish Challenger
Baseball.
Jeffery was
the proud owner of his own sailboat which he sailed independently in
Antigonish and on the Bras D’Or Lakes. He
showcased his DJ skills at every given opportunity and was thrilled to
entertain a crowd. His ultimate poker face allowed him to win many
hands. He could be found at several sporting events cheering on his
niece and nephews and local sport teams or socializing with friends at
the pub. He was the number one devoted fan of the StFX men’s
basketball team and had a special place courtside, rarely missing a
game. Coach K and Coach TV treated him like a valuable
member of the team.
We will dearly
miss his devious laugh, heroic approach to life and infectious smile
that would light up a room.
He leaves
behind his loving mother and number one advocate, Rita; his sister,
Kerri-Lyn (Jason Brown); brother, Jonathon (Michelle); his niece and
nephews, Marley, Ben, Andy, Sam, and Eli; and Godchildren, Chelsey and
Clara. He will be sorely missed by his grandmother, Frances MacDonald.
Jeffery was the apple of her eye. He is also survived by many uncles,
aunts, and cousins who cherished their time with
him.
He was
predeceased by his hero and father, Brian; maternal grandfather,
Garfield MacLean; his paternal grandparents, Harris and Phyllis
Murray; and his guard dog, Duke.
Sincere
gratitude is extended to all the wonderful care providers and medical
personnel who made it possible for Jeffery to live independently in
his own community.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will take place at St. Ninian’s Cathedral
at 11 a.m. on Friday March 22nd, 2024.
Immediately following Mass, we welcome all to join us at St.
Ninian’s Place to celebrate Jeffery’s Life through
storytelling and reminiscing.
In memory of
Jeffery, donations may be made to CACL Antigonish or a charity of your
choice.
Funeral
