It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Elaine MacKay
(Landry), 79, on May 8th, 2024, at
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, after a
brief illness.
Elaine was
born on August 18, 1944, in Antigonish, Nova
Scotia.
She was the
first daughter of the late Hubert and Marion Landry (Chisholm) of
Pomquet.
Elaine trained
to become a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in North
Sydney. She graduated in 1966 and spent many years as a nurse at the
Bethany Infirmary in Antigonish.
Elaine leaves
to mourn her children Joanne (Gary Baxter), Ottawa; Rene (Mary-Beth
Flory), Country Harbour; and Marc (Stacey),
Ottawa.
She will be
forever missed by her five grandchildren: Kolby, Meaghan, Monet, Mica
and Olivia.
Elaine is
survived by her siblings, Hugh Landry, Pomquet; Joan
Boudreau, Fredericton; Robert (Betty Rose) Landry,
Antigonish; Claire (Danny Eddy), Bridgewater; Audrey (David Perun),
Vancouver; and her brother-in-law, Greg Mattie, Arisaig; as well as
many nieces and nephews.
In addition to
her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her brother, Paul Landry;
sister, Norma Mattie; sister-in-law, Helen Landry (Chisholm), and
brother-in-law, Paul Boudreau.
Elaine’s family extends heartfelt thanks to
the nurses and doctors of The John MacLellan Palliative Care Unit at
St Martha’s Regional Hospital. They provided exceptional
care, kindness and compassion at a time when it was needed the
most.
Visitation
will be held on Friday, May 10th, from 2-5pm at C.L. Curry Funeral
Home, 135 College St. Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Funeral Mass
will be held Saturday, May 11th, in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish,
at 2:00pm with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in
the Parish cemetery.
Memorial
donations may be made to The John MacLellan Palliative Care Unit (St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation) or The Canadian
Cancer Society.
