Betty J. McAllister, age 80,
formerly of Pleasant Valley passed away at St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital, Antigonish on May 8,
2024.
Born in
Windsor, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eula
(Marsters) Burke.
Betty married
Basil, the love of her life, in 1957. As a military family
they spent time living in Germany and Oromocto where Basil
retired as a Sergeant in the Canadian Forces. They moved to Antigonish
in 1975 building a home and farm at the location
of Basil’s childhood home in Pleasant Valley. Here
they spent the next 30 years raising their children along with
numerous foster children. They returned to Oromocto,
where they felt most at home, in 2005. Betty had a great
sense of humour and will be remembered for her strong
personality and willingness to fight for what she believed
in.
Betty resided
at Green Meadows, in Antigonish county, for the last year and a half
of her life. Her family had great peace of mind knowing she
was well cared for and would like to extend a
heartfelt thanks to all involved in her
care.
She is
survived by her children, Mary Cudmore (Alan), Fredericton, NB;
Leon McAllister (Karen Roode), Fredericton, NB; Raymond
McAllister (Annette),Antigonish, NS; Roseanne MacEachern (Mike Knocton),
Antigonish, NS; Keith McAllister (Leah Panday), Pembrook, ON;
daughter-in-law Janet McAllister, Oromocto, NB; 15 grandchildren
and many great grandchildren, nieces and
nephews.
She was
predeceased by her husband Basil, son Stephen, and daughter Peggy
Darlene (in infancy).
Cremation has
taken place. Respecting mom’s wishes, there will be no
visitation. A graveside service will take
place at a later date in Fredericton, NB.
To honour
mom’s love of animals, memorial donations may be
made to the Nova Scotia SPCA.
