McGibbon, George T., age 70, Antigonish passed away on June 21, 2024, at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish.

George was born on February 15, 1954, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and was raised on St. Mary’s Street in the house his grandfather built.

He was always a dignified, respectful person, a demeanor he still maintained during his time at the R.K. He was a lifelong "Red Tory" and a self confessed "Beach Bum".  His nieces and nephews had many trips to Mahoneys (always an ice cream involved), Cribbons and Lakevale in Uncle George’s "big car".

He went o Morrison Elementary, Dr. J.H. Gillis and attended UPEI where he was president of the Student’s Union.  Like many of his peers, he went out west to work in the oil fields as a surveyor, then in Parks and Recreation for the city of Calgary.  He also worked many years as a forester, venturing as far as Churchill Falls with Scott and Stewart.

Predeceased by his parents, Irving and Margaret (Kehoe) McGibbon and brother Gerard.

Survived by brothers: Allan, John, Bob; sisters: Patty (Pat) Smith, Betty (Pat) Gardener, Donna (Donald) MacDonald; nephews: Riley and Thomas Smith, Irving MacDonald; nieces: Marya Boast, Meaghan MacGillivary, Case and Sophie Gardner; grand nephew, Oscar Boast and grand nieces: Ophelia Boast, Ava Boast and Uma Smith.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home who rewarded our thrust in them by taking wonderful care of George.

As per George’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private family gathering will take place at a later dat.  Online condolences: www.clcurry.com.
