Fergus Dearden, 41, Halifax and formerly of Port Hawkesbury died at home in Halifax on August, 9th, 2024.

Born in St. John’s Newfoundland, he was a son of Nola (MacInnis) Dearden and the Late Fergus Dearden.

Fergus moved with his family to Port Hawkesbury when he was in Grade 1, attending school there until the time of high school graduation. He was involved in swimming, taekwondo, the scouting movement, and a member of the school band. A highlight of his high school years was spending a summer on the tall ship Christian Radich in Norway, working in the galley. After graduation from SAREC, he took a year off to work before attending Saint Mary’s University. Education remained a priority to Fergus after completing his undergraduate degree by enrolling in courses at Dalhousie University.

His love of cooking and baking continued from his summer spent in the galley of the Christian Radich, especially when it came to making chocolates which he often sold at the markets in Halifax. He took great pride in sharing his talents with his mother.

He is survived by his mother Nola, Antigonish; brothers Adrian, Long Beach California and Alex, Antigonish; aunt Carla; and uncle Roddy.

Besides his father, he is predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents; aunt Maureen; and uncles David, Robert, Michael, and Ian.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral Service will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Monday August 26th, 2024 at 10am with Deacon Henry van de Weil presiding. Burial to follow in St. Ninian Cemetery.
