MacDonald, Catharine Anne "Cacky"
,57, of Antigonish, formerly of Westmount, Cape Breton,
passed away peacefully on Friday September 20th surrounded by her
family.
Born in Sydney Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late
James Fraser and Edith Louise MacDonald.
Catharine dedicated 32 years of her life to the teaching
profession. She was passionate about her students and
education having received Canadian Parents for French Second Language
Educator of the Year while teaching at St. Andrews Junior School,
Antigonish. Over her life her passion for history, wildlife, and
nature was unfailing. She was an enthusiastic hiker, seeking
out Nova Scotia’s waterfalls and a world traveler making a
point to visit Peru, Egypt, Jordan, Galapagos Islands, Scotland, and
Ireland, the list goes on. It was in her retirement that
Catharine fully immersed herself in her love of photography, capturing
incredible photos of wildlife and surrounding nature.
Throughout 17 of her years in Antigonish she had one trusted friend
that could not go without mentioning, her loving cat
Teddie.
She will be dearly missed by her siblings, Dan, Sydney; Rod
(Julie), East Bay; Rosena MacDonald, Halifax; Alonzo (Lucy), Halifax;
nieces Aky (Andrew Komar), Toronto; and Emily and Olivia both of
Halifax; grand niece and nephew Cynthia and
James.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Tuesday,
September 24, in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St.
Antigonish. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00am on
Wednesday, September 25th in C.L. Curry Funeral
Home, Reverend Peter Smith presiding. Burial to follow in
St. James St. Paul Cemetery.
