Grace, Joseph Carl, 86, of Heatherton passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.  Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Angus and Margaret (Fraser) Grace.

Carl was a dedicated husband, father, Poppa, and friend.  The  "Candy Man" to many, he was sociable, fun-loving, and enjoyed helping others.

Carl loved his family - particularly his two granddaughters Kate and Lauren, who were a major source of delight and pride.  He had a wonderful sense of humour -enjoying many a hearty laugh and prank with his fishing and hunting buddies -Lauchie, Donnie, Archie, and Eddie. He enjoyed summers picking blueberries with Kate, his best friend Normie, and his late brother, Doug.

Carl was a hardworking mechanic, spending many years with Bernie Fraser and at Eastern Auto Ltd. He could fix anything and was relentlessly sought by many to repair everything.  He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman who proudly displayed his vegetables at the annual exhibition and enjoyed feeding the backyard birds.

Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his loving wife, Mary (MacDonald) of sixty-four years; children, Rick (Mary MacInnis) and Marlene (Tom Fredericks); granddaughters, Kate and Lauren; brother, Bernie; sisters, Jean and Anne; and sisters-in-law, Theresa and Colleen.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers,  Sander, Everett, Howard, Donnie, and Doug; and recently by sister, Mary Mattie.

Carl’s loss will be deeply felt by those who knew him. Visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00pm on Wednesday, October 9 at CL Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, October 10 at Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton with Fr. Dennis Lamey presiding.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, c/o St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all for the respectful care and support.
