Joseph "Joe"
Lafford began his peaceful journey to the spirit world
on December 5, 2024, at the R.K MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish
after a struggle with dementia.
Born
in Kennebunkport, Maine on Sept 4, 1954, he made Paqtnkek his
permanent home in 1975 to be close to his parents the late Benedict
and Margaret (Stevens) Lafford.
Throughout the
years, Joe was always finding ways to keep busy. He was a welder, an
education counsellor, a Paqtnkek Band Councillor, and a Water
Treatment Operator. When he wasn’t busy, he would be out
cruising the streets of Paqtnkek with his lawn
mower.
Joe was known
for his infectious humor and warm spirit, leaving behind a legacy of
laughter and joy. He had a unique ability to light up any
room with his quick wit and playful jokes, making even the toughest
days a little brighter. He had a knack for finding humor in
everyday situations, reminding us all, to not take life too seriously.
His laughter was contagious, and his spirit will forever be cherished
by those who had the pleasure of knowing
him.
Joe leaves
behind his wife Mary Catherine and their children Lynn (Wilfred),
Valerie, Brenda (Brendan) and Benedict ( Savannah) all of Paqtnkek. He
was a loving grandfather to Lauren, Nicole, Scott, Nolan, Ty, Peter
Keagan and Brolly. He is also survived by his brother John
Lafford, Paqtnkek, sisters, Mary Ann Sark (Harold), Paqtnkek, Judy
Lafford-Jones (Ken), Havre Boucher, Joan Lafford and Sandra Landry,
both of Maine. Surviving Godchildren, Donna Johnson, Doris (Tic)
Googoo and Alex Paulette Jr. He will also be missed by his in-laws,
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his
parents, he was predeceased by brothers Earl Lafford, Levi Lafford,
and Patrick Lafford, sisters, Linda Lafford, Helen Lafford and Annie
Lafford.
We would like
to thank the nursing staff at the R.K MacDonald Nursing Home for their
care and support in caring for our dad.
