Eleanor Jean "Jeannie" Louise
McGee, of Antigonish passed away peacefully at aged 70
on December 25, 2024, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
with family by her side.
Jeannie lived a
life of incredible kindness. Her deep faith helped her navigate life's
challenges with inspiring optimism and
hope.
Jeannie
delighted in being an aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews
(more than 50). Visits, lunches, sleepovers and trips were always full
of fun thanks to Jeannie's legendary sense of humor. Laughter followed
wherever she went. She also liked to surprise loved ones with
colourfully decorated letters and thoughtful care packages, fondly
known as "Jeannie" mail.
Jeannie loved
to travel, meeting and making friends everywhere. Favourite places she
visited include Hawaii, Yukon, Alaska, Ireland, Scotland, and touring
Canada from NFLD to BC. A special gift trip to NYC, including seeing a
Broadway show, was a cherished highlight.
Rarely idle,
Jeannie loved to learn and to help others. She benifited
greatly from participating in the Christoper Leadership Courses and
later she joined the Christopher Leadership Team so she could help
others grow in confidence. She often took advantage of
educational courses offered through work and union workshops. Jeannie
was an avid photographer and loved crafts especially knitting and
crocheting. So many of Jeannie’s loved ones received
beautifully hand-crafted gifts, which they will always
treasure.
Born in New
Glasgow and raised in Merigomish, Jeannie was the youngest child of
the late Francis J. and Margaret (Reid) McGee. She moved to
Antigonish, where she worked at St. Martha's Regional Hospital for 38
years working in the office of the Diagnostic Imaging Department
before transferring to the Food Services Department as a Dietary
Clerk.
Jeannie is
survived by siblings Sheila MacDonald, New Glasgow; Mike (Marie),
Ecuador; and sisters-in-law Marsha, Alberta; Sandra, Thorburn; and
Marie, Ontario. She leaves behind a large extended family and beloved
friends Eileen Harvey, Saskatchewan and Angela Witiw,
