DELOREY, Eugene Charles,
84 of Antigonish and formerly of Monastery, Antigonish County died on
May 14, 2026 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Born in
Antigonish, he was a son of the late Angus and Kathleen (DeCoste)
DeLorey.
Eugene worked
for NSLC Antigonish for 28 years retiring as Assistant
Manager. In retirement he got great pleasure in driving bus
for Acadia Lines, Ambassatours, and St. F. X. Athletics bus.
Over the years Eugene was very involved with Parish and community
groups. He was a founding member of the Tracadie &
District Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief, of
St. Peter’s Holy Name Society and a founding member of the
Beavers Club to mention a few. He and his brother Francis,
embarked on business ventures most notably a carpet business and
DeLorey Bros. Bingo Hall which they operated for 31 years.
He had a welcoming nature and got much pleasure in visiting family and
friends. He was a devoted and faithful Toronto Maple Leafs
fan. Eugene took great pride in maintaining his property and
vehicles.
He is
survived by his brothers Jack (Dorothy), Monastery, Andrew (Sharon),
Moose Jaw, Sask., Seward (Ann), Monastery, sister-in-law Annette,
Antigonish and several nieces and nephews, Special Friend Bernadette
Breen.
He was
predeceased by sister Marie Pettipas, brothers Francis and Roy and
brother-in-law Donnie Pettipas.
Remains are
resting in C. L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish. Visitation on Sunday from 3:00 – 8:00
PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday
in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie at 2:00 PM. Rev
John Barry presiding. Burial in St. Peter’s
Cemetery.
Memorial
donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital
Palliative Care Unit.
The family are eternally grateful to the Doctors,
Nurses and Staff of the St. Martha’s Palliative Care Unit,
especially his devoted care term, who provided care for him at home
and in hospital, Dr. Emily Rice and Tove Morigan, RN. Also, Dr. Laurie
Wood, Oncologist, Halifax.
