MACDONALD, Allan Kenneth, 75, Upper South River. It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Allan Kenneth (the Ridge) MacDonald on May 19, 2026 at High Crest in Sherbrooke.
Ken was born on October 1, 1950 to the late Hughie and Catherine (MacDougall) MacDonald.
Ken is survived by his children Shawn (Lanie), Robin, and Kevin (Vonda), and wife Jane; grandchildren Hanna, Brianna (Finley), Morgan, and Savannah; great-grandchildren Haven, Augustine, and Opie....all of whom referred to him affectionately as 'Papa Ken'. He is also survived by siblings Isabel (Florence), Betty, Bernard (Mary), Clare (Jim) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents Ken was predeceased by two brothers, Kevin, and Rev. Jim (OMI).
Ken worked for many years as a lineman for F.A. Tucker, K-Line, and in his later years the North West Power Corporation. Ken loved the work he did and was very proud of all his accomplishments as a lineman. He was well respected by his colleagues, many of whom describe him as taking on any task no matter how formidable.
To describe Ken as a sociable man is an understatement to say the least. He was kind, generous to a fault, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who might need it. He was instrumental in making sure his Mother, Catherine, was able to stay in her own home in her later years as long as possible by actually moving in with her. That is the kind of man and son Ken was...family was always at the centre of his heart. Ken had a great sense of humour-he knew more jokes than you could count and always had one at the ready for any occasion. He loved country music and often entertained the staff at High Crest with renditions of his favourite country songs, especially The Crystal Chandelier by Charlie Pride. He loved life and all it entailed-especially four-wheeling, travelling the back roads, fishing for 'the big one', or just sitting in his rocking chair in his home he so loved on Pearl's Hill enjoying the scenery and wildlife, and time with his dog, Tucker. Although Ken grew up in a rural area, the only things he ever shot were photographs. He had many beautiful pictures of landscapes and wildlife that he took in both the local area and when he worked in the North.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Martha's Hospital for the care Ken received over the past few years. In particular special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Maude Maclnnis, and to Dr. Mary Gorman.
The family also want to give special thanks to the nurses and all the staff at High Crest in Sherbrooke for the wonderful care given to Ken over these past few months. In particular we would like to thank Dr. Jim McLean and Dr. Michael Ackermann
At Ken's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family graveside service will take place, but online condolences and shared memories from Ken’s many friends and collogues near and far are most welcome. If you wish to make a donation, in memory of Ken, you may donate to High Crest Home in Sherbrooke, or a charity of your choice.
