It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Joseph McKeough
of Linwood, Nova Scotia on June 13, 2026, at the age of
79.
Len was a
gifted storyteller with a quick wit and a deep love of humour. Always
smiling, with a familiar grin and an easygoing nature, he had a way of
drawing people in—ready with a joke or a story that brought
laughter and connection to those around
him.
His love of
the water began early and led him to join the Royal Canadian Navy at
the age of 18. Not long after, he met the love of his life, Brenda.
Together they built a life rooted in love and partnership, sharing
nearly 58 years of marriage.
He spent 35
of his working years at the Pulp and Paper Mill in Port Hawkesbury,
where his easygoing nature and sense of humor led to many lasting
friendships.
A true
homebody, Len found his greatest happiness close to home. He and
Brenda spent countless hours side by side tending to their gardens,
creating spaces of beauty that were admired by many and reflected the
care they shared in their life together.
Born to
Joseph and Elizabeth "Betty" (Connors) McKeough, of Linwood,
Nova Scotia on August 1, 1946, he was a cherished brother to Jack,
Frank (Lorraine), Lilie (Sears Forbes), and Monica (Joe White). He
will be deeply missed by his wife, Brenda; his children, Terry
(Kristen) and Cherie (Dereck Cruickshank); his treasured
grandchildren, Rachel & Kyle McKeough and Ryan & Beth
Cruickshank; and his beloved chosen family, Terry, Rebecca, Stella,
and Elliott Connolly, who were family in every sense of the word and
held a cherished place in his heart. He was blessed with a large
extended family who will miss him dearly.
Len’s warmth, humour, and gentle presence
will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew
him.
Visitation
will take place at St. Paul’s Place, Havre Boucher, NS, on
Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held
at St. Paul’s Parish Church on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at
11:00am with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial
immediately following in the parish
cemetery.
In lieu of
flowers, donations in Len’s memory may be made to St.
Martha’s Palliative Care Society, St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital Oncology department or St. Paul’s Parish
Luncheon Fund.
Our family
extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and all those
who cared for Len in the Oncology and Palliative Care units at St.
Martha’s Hospital for the exceptional care, kindness, and
compassion they provided throughout his
illness.
