Sylliboy, Frederick Francis "Fred", age 67, of Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation passed away on June 24, 2026, in Addington Forks, Antigonish County.

Born in Paqtnkek, he was a son of the late Thomas and Isabel (Paulette) Sylliboy.

Fred spent most of his life on the water, working as a lobster fisherman, captain, and eventually a fleet manager before his retirement. Following a short battle with cancer, he recently entered remission and devoted his time to his passions, including beading, gardening, and taking road trips with his BFF Gail Marshall. His true love, however, remained fishing and sharing his stories with anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Isadore, Paqtnkek; niece, Virginia (Manny), Paqtnkek; niece, Emily (Evan), Paqtnkek; aunt, Marie (Rick) Fluke, Paqtnkek; grandnieces and grandnephews, Nyesha (Straus), Kiana, Chuck, Janissa, Ethan, Reaze, Scarlett, and Hayden; godchildren, Aaron Johnson, Chuck Augustine, Brianna Bear, and Ethan Paul-Sylliboy.

Although Fred had no children to call his own, he was the loving Papa and father figure to Atta (Robert), Patrick (Tanya), Shawn (Karen), and Trevor, and Papa was so proud of his grandbabies and great-grandbabies, Brianna, Brynnae, Takoda, Treyden, Aaron, Caitlin, Brendan, Dexter, Logan, Nolan, Dameon, Cydney, Riley, Ozuk, Brielle, Maverick, Jace, Casey, and Drew.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his partner, Marie Johnson; sister, Ann Isabel; and nephew, Christopher "Diggy" Sylliboy.

Visitation will be held at 41 Saqamaw Road, Paqtnkek, starting Tuesday at 3pm until time of funeral on Thursday at 11:00am in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, Reverend Dennis Lamey presiding.  Burial in Walneg at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Summerside Road.

Salite and feast to follow at the Paqtnkek Community Centre.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish (Nalikitquniejk).  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
