Myette, Cathy Darlene - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Cathy Darlene Myette of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, on July 18, 2026, at the age of 58.
Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, on December 2, 1967, Cathy was one of six children born to George Leo and Mary (MacInnis) Myette. As the only daughter among five brothers, she grew into the strong, resilient, and no-nonsense woman so many knew and loved. Cathy devoted much of her life to caring for her youngest brother, Shawn, especially following the passing of their father.
Cathy was known for her incredible work ethic and her big heart. In true Myette fashion, she gave all her strength into every job she took on, often pushing herself until her body ached. "Take it easy" was never advice she cared to hear, even as her health declined over the last two years of her life. Throughout her career, she served in many roles, including working at Home Hardware, and managing at Irving and Mcdonald’s. She was especially proud of her work with the Nova Scotia Health Authority at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and at Nova Scotia Power in Point Tupper, where she worked as a custodian while also ambitiously taking on other roles. Cathy put her heart and soul into everything she did and into the people around her. She had an infectious, dry sense of humour, a remarkable ability to make people laugh, and a way of making those around her feel welcome and heard.
When she wasn’t working, Cathy loved spending sunny days at Parish Beach, alternating between soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean. She was the life of the party, whether surrounded by coworkers, friends, or family. Music was something she couldn’t be without, and some of her favourite artists were Bob Seger and Matt Minglewood. She also loved settling in with a good true crime show and some chips. Whether the music was turned up, a true crime marathon was on TV, or she was sharing laughs with the people she loved, Cathy knew how to make the most of every moment. Her resilience, work ethic, sense of humour, kindness, and fierce love for those closest to her are the legacy she leaves behind.
Cathy was predeceased by her beloved parents, George Leo and Mary (MacInnis) Myette; her brother, Leo George Myette; her grandparents, Lavin and Anita (Rogers-Hicks) Myette and John William and Margaret (MacLeod) MacInnis; her uncles, Chester Myette, Alfred (Agnes) Myette, John Roderick "Roddy" MacInnis, and Hugh Duncan "Sonny" MacInnis; and her aunts, Mary MacInnis, Gladys (Myette) Benoit, Rose Marie (Myette) DeCoste, and Margaret Mary "Peggy" Myette.
She is survived by her uncles, John Myette (predeceased by his wife, Jeanette), Donnie Myette (predeceased by his wife, Susan); her aunt Shirley (Myette) DeCoste; her brothers, Johnny Myette (Ontario), Gerard Myette (Brandice) of Antigonish, William "Billy" Myette of Antigonish, and Shawn Myette of Westville; her nieces and nephews, John, Jessica, Julia, Michael, Alex, and Laura; as well as many cherished cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Cathy also leaves behind her only daughter, Chantelle Myette (James Horne) of Little Dover, and her treasured granddaughter, Ayla Horne, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Being Chantelle’s "Maman" and becoming Ayla’s "Nammy" were among the greatest joys of her life, and the love she had for them both was beyond measure.
In keeping with Cathy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Cathy’s life, along with the interment of her ashes, will be held at a later date.
