Evans, Hubert William Richard “Bert”, 85, formerly of Sylvan Valley, Antigonish Co. died on Saturday May 24, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.

Born in Swansea, Wales, he was a son of the late Stanley and Lillian Evans. Bert was a professional Soccer Player. While serving with the RAF as an Airframe Mechanic in Egypt during WWII he played soccer for the RAF Premier Team. He later played with the English League and was Captain of the U.S. Team in 1959. Bert and his family traveled extensively throughout the world and came to Nova Scotia 3 years ago, and made it their home. Bert enjoyed a game of golf, cricket or snooker.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia (Cable), sons : Peter (Laurie), Mulgrave; Wayne (Diane), Acme, Alberta; sister, Marion Dampier, Kent, England; brother, Glanville, Tasmania.

The remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Church St., Antigonish with Rev. Dawn Dickieson presiding followed by a reception in the Social Room at 12 Sylvan Valley Rd. Memorial donation may be made to a charity of choice. Online condolences at www.clcurry.com
